This module begins by defining interpretive communication and examining the various processes, reader- and text-based factors involved in reading and listening. The module then offers information on what readers and listeners are able to do and the types of written and spoken texts they are able to interpret at different ACTFL proficiency levels and sub-levels. After exploring process-oriented approaches to reading and listening, you will find authentic written and spoken texts and use them to develop activities for your learners. This modules also offers additional strategies you can consider on how to promote effective reading and listening strategies, as well as using technology to help develop interpretive communication skills.
